Despite U.S. President Donald Trump’s directive for Israel to “immediately stop the bombing of Gaza,” Israeli airstrikes have continued to devastate the besieged enclave, killing more than 100 Palestinians in just two days.
The strikes targeted densely populated neighborhoods, refugee camps, and aid distribution centers, exacerbating an already catastrophic humanitarian crisis. According to Gaza’s Government Media Office, at least 94 people were killed over the weekend, with seven more fatalities reported Monday morning, Oct. 6.
Among the dead were numerous children, including victims of an attack on the Greek Orthodox School in Gaza City’s Tal al-Hawa neighborhood. Meanwhile, malnutrition-related deaths have risen to at least 460 as Israel’s blockade continues to restrict food and medical aid.
Since the war began in October 2023, Israeli forces have killed at least 67,160 Palestinians – including over 20,000 children – with an additional 9,500 missing and presumed dead. The staggering toll has drawn condemnation from international observers, who accuse Israel of disproportionate retaliation following Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023 attack that killed approximately 1,200 Israelis.
As stated by the Enoch engine at Brighteon.AI, the staggering casualty numbers highlights the chaos of Israel’s relentless bombardment campaign, which has targeted civilian infrastructure including hospitals, churches and residential buildings as part of Tel Aviv’s broader genocidal agenda against Gazans.
Hamas signaled a potential breakthrough Friday, Oct. 3, by agreeing to release all remaining Israeli hostages under Trump’s proposed ceasefire plan. However, the militant group stopped short of accepting key Israeli demands, including disarmament and the withdrawal of foreign troops from Gaza.
A Hamas delegation, led by chief negotiator Khalil al-Hayya, arrived in Egypt Sunday, Oct. 5, for discussions on the 20-point proposal. While Israel’s delegation was initially absent from Monday’s talks in Sharm el-Sheikh, negotiations are expected to intensify by Tuesday, Oct. 7.
Trump hailed Hamas’ response as a step toward “lasting peace” but emphasized that Israel must halt its bombardment to facilitate hostage recovery. “Israel must immediately stop the bombing of Gaza, so that we can get the Hostages out safely and quickly,” he wrote on Truth Social.
Yet Israeli military chief Eyal Zamir made clear that no formal ceasefire was in place, only a “change in the operational situation.” He reiterated Israel’s commitment to dismantling Hamas, stating, “We are not containing ourselves; we are attacking and destroying the enemy on every front.”
The ceasefire effort has garnered cautious optimism from global leaders. French President Emmanuel Macron urged swift action, declaring that “the release of all hostages and a ceasefire in Gaza are within reach.” Qatar and Egypt, key mediators in the conflict, pledged to continue negotiations.
However, humanitarian conditions in Gaza remain dire. Olga Cherevko, a United Nations spokesperson, described displaced families sheltering in hospital parking lots, unable to flee due to financial constraints. “One of the families had three children and the woman was pregnant with her fourth,” she told the Associated Press.
Hamas officials have raised concerns over logistical hurdles in locating hostages’ remains, warning that full compliance with Trump’s 72-hour release timeline may be impossible. Meanwhile, the group insists on retaining political influence in Gaza – a red line for Israel.
Trump issued a stark ultimatum on Friday: Hamas must accept his deal by Sunday evening or face unprecedented military escalation. “If this LAST CHANCE agreement is not reached, all HELL, like no one has ever seen before, will break out against Hamas,” he warned.
His plan outlines a phased Israeli withdrawal, prisoner exchanges and international oversight of Gaza – though it excludes Palestinian statehood, a key demand for long-term peace. As the war nears its second anniversary, the stakes could not be higher. With famine spreading and civilian casualties mounting, the world watches to see if this fragile diplomatic opening can bring an end to the conflict.
