New York Times ‘economist’ and columnist Paul Krugman is a Distinguished Professor of Economics at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. He’s won a Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences. He was once a finalist for a Pulitzer Prize … in economics.
Paul Krugman writes more like a Marxist/socialist who hate capitalism, which defies explanation as to why he’s so feted as an “economist” given that socialism and Marxism — and their close cousin, communism — have a very long history of wrecking national economies, not building them up.
But none of that compares to his latest bout of lunacy: Predicting that tons of journalists are going to be sent to “prison camps” unless President Donald Trump is removed from office.
Yeah, he actually said it. Well, he tweeted it, which is the same thing, as NewsBusters noted.
His actual tweet was, “Starting to look like two possible outcomes: Trump and a number of others end up in jail, or thousands of journalists end up in prison camps.”
The tweet was in response to a post from Josh Campbell, a Navy vet and former FBI agent who now covers ‘security’ for the most corrupt news network on the planet, CNN (well, okay, MSNBC is a close second) who mentioned that the White House “restricted access to Trump’s calls with Putin and Saudi crown prince.”
Misleading, and intentionally so: 1) Trump has a leak problem in his White House that no president in modern history has had to deal with, so it behooves him to secure transcripts of his phone calls so he can hold them in candor, like presidents are supposed to do, and 2) Obama locked up his transcripts too.
But nevertheless, it’s Krugman’s idiotic ‘prediction’ that should garner the most attention. (Related: President Trump doubles down after blatant media ‘free press’ collusion, telling journalists they are free to leave.)
Here we have a supposedly educated man who wrote that the president of the United States would get away with jailing journalists and locking them up in “prison camps.” That’s so far out in Left field it’s difficult to imagine any thinking person saying it, let alone writing it down for the world to see.
If anyone was a real, live threat to journalists’ freedom, it was Barack Hussein Obama. Though he breezed into office with the lie that his would be the “most transparent administration ever,” the fact is he spied on reporters and threatened to jail many of them for alleged violations of the Espionage Act because they reported on information that had been leaked to them (egads! Doesn’t that sound familiar?).
“In May 2013, the illusion of an unfettered press disappeared like a magician’s bunny. It was in this month that the Associated Press learned Obama’s Justice Department had quietly seized all of the relevant records for twenty AP telephone lines a year earlier. These included the personal and professional lines of several reporters,” Jack Cashill wrote at American Thinker.
The Washington Post added in May 2013:
The case of Stephen Jin-Woo Kim, the government adviser, and James Rosen, the chief Washington correspondent for Fox News, bears striking similarities to a sweeping leaks investigation disclosed last week in which federal investigators obtained records over two months of more than 20 telephone lines assigned to the Associated Press. … Court documents in the Kim case reveal how deeply investigators explored the private communications of a working journalist — and raise the question of how often journalists have been investigated as closely as Rosen was in 2010.
“Search warrants like these have a severe chilling effect on the free flow of important information to the public,” First Amendment lawyer Charles Tobin, who once represented the Associated Press, told the Post. “That’s a very dangerous road to go down.”
Sure it is. And Obama was doing it. Krugman knows that. But he’d rather pretend like Trump is threatening press freedoms when, in fact, he’s been regularly victimized by the media.
